About Drywood

Drywood spans austere, dry woody notes such as cedar, vetiver and certain sandalwood treatments, offering a contrast to the sweeter, resinous or creamy woods. These materials tend to read as papery, almost mineral, and provide a structural backbone rather than plush warmth. Seventy-one percent of the time drywood settles into the base, grounding the fragrance, while a quarter of occurrences appear in the heart and only four percent in the top. Emper and Naseem each employ it in ten perfumes, Khalis in nine, Paris Corner in eight and Dumont in seven. Musk, bergamot and vanilla are the most common partners, tempering the dryness with softness and brightness, while patchouli, jasmine and rose add aromatic and floral complexity.
