About Amber Notes

The first impression is rarely amber itself: instead, bergamot, cashmere or brighter florals introduce the wearer to compositions that reserve their amber warmth for the base. Amber notes, a catch-all term for blends evoking the resinous, honeyed glow of fossilised resin, typically combine labdanum, vanilla and benzoin to create a soft, golden sweetness that feels both cosy and slightly powdery. Ninety-four per cent of the thirty-two perfumes in our catalogue place this ingredient in the base, where it provides a long, enveloping finish. Khalis accounts for twenty-five of these fragrances, with smaller contributions from Naseem, Aurora Scents and others. Vanilla, sandalwood, patchouli and cedarwood appear alongside amber notes most often, building woody oriental or ambery floral structures that reveal their full warmth only after the top notes have settled.
